Your roof is subject to incredible stresses
and strains resulting from the varied, and often inclement,
weather experienced in the United Kingdom. Many of the problems
with Fascias, Soffits and Guttering start with water entering
the roofing system under the tiles. This happens when tiles lift in the wind and
become misaligned, or are cracked or broken through aerial
debris. This is a fact of life and is not easily solved. After
all if the slates or tiles were watertight and unbreakable
there would be no need for a waterproof under felt.
When it rains water enters the system causing
major problems which show up initially as dampness, rot or
warped fascia or soffit boards. This can be a symptom
of something far more serious lurking underneath. If the underlying
problems are not dealt with they will only get worse, and,
the longer they are left the more likely it is that major
structural damage to your roof will be caused. Many companies don't deal with the problems,
they merely perform a superficial facelift covering over the
existing wood. This process is known as "capping"
or "over-cladding". It certainly is far cheaper,
and will look good initially, but all it does is encase the
existing wood in plastic ensuring that the damp in your roof
can go only one way - into your rafters. It solves nothing,
accelerates the deterioration of your internal roof structure,
and makes already inadequate ventilation even worse.
At
Summit Roofguard we have built our reputation by doing
a thorough job. We will install a new Eaves Protection
and Ventilation system. We inspect the rafters cutting
out any damp or rotting wood (and replacing it) and
then treat all rafters with preservative. Only when
we have dealt with all the underlying problems, will
we move to replace the existing boards with premium
gleaming new Fascias Soffits and Guttering.
